The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, was inaugurated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba along with former Prime Minister of India Sri. P.V. Narasimha Rao. The hospital as of today offers free tertiary care in seven specialties as described below:

Cardiology
The Department of Cardiology began functioning on November 22, 1991. With complex procedures being performed free o charge patients visit the Department from all over the country. Patients mostly belong to economically weaker sections of the society, who could not have afforded the cost of the treatment elsewhere. Read more

Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery
The department of Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) has been rendering effective service at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, since its inception 20 years ago. The Department has been delivering, a high standard of medical care with the support of fully trained and dedicated staff supported by state-of-the-art equipment. Read more

Urology
The department of Urology was inaugurated by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then President of India on 22nd November, 1992. In its initial days, it was working as a General Surgery Department with emphasis on Urology. Later on it became a specialised department in Urology. Facilities of Nephrology were initially extended to the patients, but later this facility was discontinued. Read more

Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology began functioning on 23rd November 1994, with the blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The department was set up with the vision to make available the finest in eye care to its patients free of cost. The department has a modern operation theatre complex with three operation theatres and an advanced laser unit. All the areas are equipped with necessary patient care equipment. Read more

Plastic Surgery
The department of Plastic Surgery began functioning at the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, from July 1997. The first operation was conducted on September 15, 1997. One unique feature of the department is that it is the only one of its kind in a 300 km diameter around Puttaparthi town. However, the department has seen patient inflow not only from the adjoining areas, but also from various parts of the country and abroad. Read more

Orthopaedics
Orthopaedics department in the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS), Prasanthigram, made a humble beginning at the Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital (SSSGH), Prasanthi Nilayam, with a basic physiotherapy unit. It was a facility to render basic emergency care. The full fledged Orthopaedics Department commenced functioning at SSSIHMS from July 11, 2006. The goal of the department is to render efficient care in orthopaedic surgery, provide post graduate training in orthopaedics and to train young and budding orthopaedic surgeons. Read more

Gastroenterology
Gastroenterology is the medical specialty that includes the preservation, investigation and the restoration of the form and function of disorders of the digestive system by medical and non-surgical methods. The purpose of the Gastroenterology Department at the SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram, and Sri Sathya General Hospital (SSSGH), Prasanthi Nilayam is to provide and ensure the delivery of FREE medical care to all patients with gastrointestinal diseases in the out-patient and in-patient setting. Support Services at SSSIHMS Prasanthigram

The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram was inaugurated by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba along with former Prime Minister of India Sri. P.V. Narasimha Rao. Anesthesiology
The Department of Anaesthesiology was set up in 1991 November; all clinical departments are anchored to this specialty. Read more

Radiology
The department started its services on 22/11/1991 when X- ray radiographs were taken for patients who underwent Cardiac surgery on the inaugural day of the hospital. At that time the department was equipped with one 300 mA X-ray machine and one 100 mA portable X-ray machine. Read more

Nuclear Medicine
The  department  was  inaugurated  on 22nd  November, 1994 by the divine touch  of  Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai  Baba  switching on the  state of the art  single head  Siemen’s  DIACAM gamma camera  with  Single Photon Emission Computed  Tomographic  capability. Since then it  is  serving  the patients referred from various departments of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram and Sri Sathya Sai General Hospital, Prasanthi Nilayam. Laboratory
The Department of  Hospital Laboratory Sciences  at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram, had its inception in 1991 to support the in patients with a wide range of Laboratory investigations necessary for patient care (diagnosis and treatment). Since then it has served the hospital as one of the most essential sections of the hospital. It consists of departments of clinical services, biochemistry, microbiology and transfusion services.Read more

Blood Bank
The blood bank attached to the hospital provides blood to all the patients undergoing surgery by bleeding voluntary donors only. Read more

Telemedicine
We have been a part of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) telemedicine and tele-education programmes since Sri Sathya Sai Medical Trust (SSSMT) entered into an MoU with ISRO on 2nd July 2007.Read more

Medical Records

Electronic Health Records (EHR) was started in our Hospital on November 23, 1991 with the opening of the hospital with a simple file server and network running a Dos based EHR. In the year 1996, windows based software was introduced with servers. In the year 2007 Enterprise Hospital Information Systems (eHIS ) was introduced. Read more

Dietary
The Dietary Services of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Prasanthigram commenced functioning from the inception of the Hospital i.e. 22nd November, 1991. Read more

Patient Correspondence Cell
Patient Correspondence Cell (PCC) is functioning in this institute to facilitate the poor and needy patients who are residing far away with a dual purpose to inform them about the departments available in this hospital and procedure to be adopted to get treatment here. Read more

Hospital Management Information Systems
The IT department was started in SSSIHMS in December 1991.   It was started with one server with 1GB disk space and 10 terminals. The server was running Novell Netware 3.11 operating system and clients used DOS 5.0.   The application used to maintain the hospital data was based on Foxpro 2.5 for DOS.Read more
